Veteran Japanese pitcher Hideo Nomo said Saturday he is bound
for the Venezuelan Winter League after undergoing rehabilitation on
his injured right elbow for over two years.

''My elbow has gotten better and I'm looking forward to taking
part in the winter league, in which I had been aiming to pitch,''
Nomo, who will play for the Caracas Lions, said on his official
website.

''I've been away from real games for a long time. I have this
goal of playing in the major leagues again and I believe joining the
winter league is a step toward making it happen,'' he said.

Nomo is currently training in Los Angeles and scheduled to leave
for Venezuela on Oct. 15.

A former Kintetsu Buffaloes right-hander, Nomo has a 123-109
record with a 4.21 earned run average in 11 years of major league
stints that began in 1995. He has played for the Los Angeles Dodgers,
New York Mets, Milwaukee Brewers, Detroit Tigers, Boston Red Sox and
Tampa Bay Devil Rays.

The 39-year-old last made a major league appearance in July 2005
with the Devil Rays. He had surgery on his pitching elbow in June
last year.
