Right-hander Shota Oba pitched a one-hitter in six shutout
innings to build a strong case for a spot in the starting rotation
Sunday as the Softbank Hawks edged the Lotte Marines 2-1 in a
preseason game.

Oba, who had a 3-5 record in his rookie season last year,
escaped a no-out, bases-loaded jam in the first inning to retire the
next 18 batters he faced at Chiba Marine Stadium. He allowed an
infield single and two walks while striking out five in picking up
his second win of the spring.

Softbank infielder Yuichi Honda went 2-for-3 to extend his
hitting streak to eight games. Lotte starter Hiroyuki Kobayashi
yielded two runs in five innings.

In other action, Hiroshima Carp right-hander Colby Lews threw
four perfect innings with seven strikeouts in a 2-2, nine-inning tie
with the Yakult Swallows, having gone nine innings without giving up
a run in three preseason outings. Soichiro Amaya went 3-for-4 with a
double and a pair of singles for Hiroshima.

Seth Greisinger, widely expected to start in the Yomiuri Giants'
regular season opener, pitched 5-2/3 shutout innings against the
Hanshin Tigers to pick up his second win in as many preseason starts.
Ryota Wakiya hit an RBI triple to help the Giants to a 2-1 win.

Newly acquired outfielder Dan Johnson delivered a pinch-hitter
homer to lead the Yokohama BayStars' 15-hit attack against the Orix
Buffaloes, who saw Tuffy Rhodes, Alex Cabrera, Jose Fernandez, Keiji
Obiki and Tomotaka Sakaguchi also go deep. Yokohama won the game 8-7.

Takayuki Kishi, last year's Japan Series MVP, was shaky in four
innings of work allowing two runs on six hits for the Seibu Lions,
who played to a 5-5 tie with the Rakuten Eagles in nine innings.
Atsushi Fujii hit a two-run homer and Kenta Asakura pitched six
scoreless innings to lead the Chunichi Dragons to a 3-1 win over the
Nippon Ham Fighters.
