Yomiuri Giants closer Marc Kroon will return to the 2009 Japan Series champions next season, baseball sources said Tuesday.
Kroon, 36, signed a one-year deal to join the Giants in 2008 with an option that automatically kicked in to extend his contract each year up to three years based on solid performances.
He was scheduled to have bone chips removed from his right elbow the same day and surgery to shave off bone spurs, team officials said. ''Of course, this means we want him to play for us next season as well,'' said team representative Hidetoshi Kiyotake.
Kroon posted 27 saves with a 1.26 ERA in 46 games this past season. He got the final four outs for his third save in the decisive Game 6 of the Japan Series against the Nippon Ham Fighters.
