The Yokohama BayStars said Friday they have signed former major league infielder Jose Castillo on a one-year deal carrying a salary of 30 million yen plus performance bonuses.
Castillo, who played from 2004-07 with the Pittsburgh Pirates, would likely play second base for Yokohama.
The 28-year-old Venezuela native has a .254 career batting average with 39 homers and 218 RBIs in 592 major league games.
In 2008, Castillo split the season between the San Francisco Giants and Houston Astros.
He batted .314 with 13 homers but committed 17 errors while playing for the Uni-President Lions in Taiwan this past season.
