The Rakuten Eagles have agreed to terms with former Hiroshima Carp infielder Andy Phillips, the club said Wednesday.
The 32-year-old will earn 50 million yen under a one-year contract.
Last year he batted .265 with 15 homers and 50 RBIs in 74 games after joining Hiroshima in late June.
Phillips said via his new club he is extremely excited to be part of Rakuten and looks forward to helping the team win the pennant after a successful run last season.
Phillips spent four seasons with the New York Yankees from 2004 before splitting the 2008 season with the Cincinnati Reds and the New York Mets.
