---------- Baseball: Iwakuma to start season opener for Rakuten
KUMEJIMA, Japan - Rakuten Eagles right-hander Hisashi Iwakuma has joined Nippon Ham Fighters ace Yu Darvish on the list of Pacific League opening day starters for the 2010 season.
New Rakuten manager Marty Brown informed Iwakuma at the team's spring training site in Okinawa on Monday of his decision to start him on March 20 against the Orix Buffaloes.
---------- Sumo: Tickets go on sale for spring meet in wake of 'Asashoryu shock'
OSAKA - Tickets went on sale at Osaka Prefectural Gymnasium on Monday for next month's Spring Grand Sumo Tournament amid worries that Asashoryu's retirement could slow ticket sales.
According to the sumo ticket office, sales are running at around the same pace as a normal year, including tickets reserved by phone.

VANCOUVER - Seiko Hashimoto, Japan's Chef de Mission for the upcoming Vancouver Olympics, said Sunday she has set the country's athletes a target of 10 medals.
''As a medal target, I aim at the number we won in Nagano,'' Hashimoto said after arriving in Vancouver from Japan.

VANCOUVER - Top Japanese moguls skier Aiko Uemura said Sunday she is not worried about how she will perform at the Vancouver Olympics.
''I don't feel rushed at all. When the time comes, I'll just try to give what I've got,'' Uemura told a press conference in the Canadian host city of the Winter Games.
---------- Judo: Ono, Ogata win at Grand Slam meet
TOKYO - Takashi Ono claimed the men's 90-kilogram title and Akari Ogata captured the women's 78-kg crown on the final day of the Grand Slam meet in Paris on Sunday.
Ono beat Dilshod Choriev of Uzbekistan in the final to become the only Japanese male winner at this tournament, while Ogata downed compatriot Sayaka Anai in the final to add to the Japanese women's sweep of three weight categories on Saturday.
---------- Golf: Imada 15th, Ishikawa 32nd at Northern Trust Open
PACIFIC PALISADES, California - Ryuji Imada finished tied for 15th and Ryo Ishikawa shared 32nd, his career-best result on the U.S. PGA Tour, at the Northern Trust Open on Sunday.
Imada closed with a bogey-free 3-under-par 68 for a 7-under 277 total. Ishikawa finished a further three strokes behind after a 72 at Riviera Country Club. |
