Rakuten Eagles right-hander Juan Morillo has quit the Pacific League club, blaming the psychological stress caused by the March 11 killer earthquake and tsunami, sources said Monday.
Rakuten, whose stadium was badly damaged by the quake that ravaged northeastern Japan, has agreed to Morillo's request to have his contract terminated and an official announcement is expected in the coming days.
The news comes two days after Brazilian striker Marquinhos walked out on J-League club Vegalta Sendai for the same reason.
Morillo has been out of Japan on temporary leave after family members had expressed fear for his safety after the 9.0-magnitude quake struck.
The 27-year-old from the Dominican Republic had an injury-interrupted first season with Rakuten last year and was limited to just seven appearances.
