The Lotte Marines said Wednesday they have acquired the services of former Yokohama BayStars infielder Jose Castillo on a contract worth $150,000.
The Venezuelan-born Castillo, 30, has a .254 career batting average with 39 home runs in 592 games in the major leagues. He last played for the San Francisco Giants and Houston Astros in 2008.
Last season, Castillo hit .273 with 19 homers in 131 games for Yokohama.
The Marines had been in the market for a power-hitting foreign player to bolster their lineup, which recently has been hit by a spate of injuries.
