The Softbank Hawks on Friday said they have signed former Cincinnati Reds and Seattle Mariners slugger Wily Mo Pena to a two-year deal.
The 29-year-old Dominican power hitter brings a wealth of experience to the Japan Series-winning Hawks, having enjoyed a major league career that also included stints with the Boston Red Sox, the Washington Nationals and the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Pena hit 26 home runs during the 2004 season with the Reds and has career record of 425 hits and 84 homers in 599 games.
''He has been a top class power hitter in the major leagues and is a player that we hope can hit 30 or 40 home runs if he plays a full season,'' Softbank said in a statement on its official website.
