Hiroshima Carp outfielder Nick Stavinoha will likely miss the rest of the season after damaging the anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus in his left knee, the team said Monday.
Stavinoha had led the Carp with nine home runs and 24 RBIs before hurting the knee against the Orix Buffaloes on June 11. He will leave on Tuesday for the United States for a further examination and surgery.
Hiroshima said there is no timetable on Stavinoha's return. The Carp are fifth in the Central League, 9.5 games out of first.
