The Pacific League-leading Lotte Marines bolstered their depleted pitching staff on Friday, when they acquired right-hander Doug Mathis and lefty Wil Ledezma.
Mathis, 29, was 7-6 with Triple-A Pawtucket in the Red Sox organization this season with a 4.07 ERA in 101-2/3 innings. He has pitched in 45 major league games, all but six in relief, for the Texas Rangers. The Marines will pay him $150,000 this season.
Ledezma, 31, was 3-3 with three saves for Triple-A Albuquerque in the Dodgers organization with a 6.99 ERA in 37-1/3 innings. Ledezma has a 15-25 record in a major league career spent mostly with Detroit. His deal is worth $400,000.
The Marines are currently without right-hander Yuki Karakawa, who was sent down to the minors on July 14 due to pain in his elbow and right-hander Hayden Penn has missed most of the season, also because of elbow pain.
Rookie lefty Takahiro Fujioka, who was 4-1 at the end of May, was deactivated on July 2 after going 0-4 in June. |
