The Pacific-League winning Rakuten Eagles announced on Tuesday
their project to increase crowd capacity at Kleenex Stadium to 28,120
seats in anticipation of the club reaching the Japan Series for the
first time ever.

The expansion project, which got under way in August, has
already added about 2,000 extra seats toward the back in left field
and other areas of the park to bring the capacity to 25,651.

The Eagles, who won their first PL pennant in their ninth year
in existence, plan to add 217 seats to their home stadium on
Thursday, and an additional 1,097 when the final stage of the Climax
Series starts Oct. 17.

Another 1,155 seats are scheduled to be installed, if the Eagles
reach the Japan Series.

In 2004, when Rakuten asked to join pro baseball as a new team,
the club promised it would increase seating capacity to 28,000.
Nippon Professional Baseball, the organizer of the Japan Series, had
also been urging the club to add more seats.
