LEAD: Kapler homers for Yomiuri in preseason game

Gabe Kapler hit a three-run homer in his first at-bat of the
spring as the former Boston Red Sox outfielder made his preseason
debut Wednesday for the Yomiuri Giants in a 4-3 victory over the
Nippon Ham Fighters.

Kapler took a fastball from Hideki Sunaga over the center-field
wall of Sapporo Dome that gave Yomiuri a 3-0 in the second inning. He
went 1-for-2 with a walk and a popup to third.

Chunichi 4, Softbank 4

Hirokazu Ibata had two hits, including a triple, and drove in
three runs for the Dragons in a game called after nine innings at
Yahoo Dome. Katsuhiko Miyaji had three RBIs on two hits for the Hawks.

Orix 5, Lotte 2

Right-hander Yuki Tanaka pitched four scoreless innings and new
foreign import Cliff Brumbaugh had two hits in the Buffaloes' victory
over the Marines in Himeji, Hyogo Prefecture. Tetsuya Kakiuchi hit a
two-run homer for Lotte.
