Nakajima, Shibata both hit two-run homers

Hiroyuki Nakajima and Hiroyuki Shibata provided power at the plate with a pair of two-run homers to ignite a 15-hit attack in the Seibu Lions' 7-4 victory over the Hanshin Tigers in a preseason game on Sunday.
Seibu starter Kazuyuki Hoashi pitched three hitless innings at Muscat stadium in Okayama Prefecture and rookie Hideaki Wakui struck out four in three innings. Shinobu Fukuhara got rocked for six runs in three innings and Takashi Toritani homered or the Tigers.

Rakuten 1, Orix 1
Hironori Fujisaki of the Eagles pitched four perfect innings with one strikeout at Skymark Stadium in Kobe. Orix's only hit of the day was a homer in the fifth by Cliff Brumbaugh, who won the batting title in the South Korean pro league last season with the Hyundai Unicorns. Kevin Beirne allowed one run in four innings of work for Orix.

Yomiuri 4, Softbank 2
Kazuhiro Kiyohara hit his second homer of the spring and veteran right-hander Masumi Kuwata gave up two runs and four hits in three innings in the Giants' win at Yahoo Dome in Fukuoka. Kiyohara, who missed most of last season with an injury, hit the go-ahead shot in the sixth. Softbank's Tsuyoshi Wada went five innings on two-run ball.

At Nagoya Dome, Naoyuki Shimizu shook off a shaky start to hold the Dragons to one run in three innings while Masahide Kobayashi was perfect in one inning of relief for Lotte. Taiwanese lefty Chen Wei-yin, who is aiming for a spot in Chunichi's rotation, gave up one run and one hit but walked five in four innings.

Yokohama 7, Hiroshima 4
At Hiroshima Stadium, Hitoshi Tamura, Takanori Suzuki and Shuichi Murata each hit solo homers for the BayStars while Yuji Yoshimi went two scoreless innings before handing the game to Cedric Bowers, who allowed four runs in one inning. Hiroshima's Takaya Kawauchi surrendered all three homers and four runs in four innings.

At Sapporo Dome, Yakult rookie right-hander Kojiro Uehara got his first win of the spring after retiring three in a row in one inning of relief. Nippon Ham's Yusaku Iriki moved a step closer to a spot in the starting rotation after giving up just one run in four innings while outfielder Tsuyoshi Shinjo had a double for the Fighters. |
