Akira Otsuka hit a go-ahead solo homer and Hiroyuki Kobayashi
drove in a run on a squeeze bunt as the Lotte Marines pulled away
with a two-run fourth inning to beat the Yomiuri Giants 5-3 in
interleague play Wednesday for their fourth straight victory.

Kobayashi (7-2) stretched his personal winning streak to five
games after giving up three runs and eight hits while striking out
six in six-plus innings of work at Tokyo Dome. He also doubled and
came around to score the game-tying run in the third.

Masahide Kobayashi closed out the ninth for his 14th save as PL
leader Lotte has won seven of its last eight games.

Tetsuya Utsumi (3-5) lasted only 4-1/3 innings and was tagged
with the loss.

Lions 4, Swallows 1

Takeya Nakamura hit a pair of solo homers off Shugo Fujii (2-3)
and Daisuke Matsuzaka fanned 12 to record double-digit strikeouts for
the third time in as many starts as Seibu beat Yakult at Jingu
Stadium.

Matsuzaka (4-5) walked one and yielded just three hits in his
third complete-game victory this season.

After Nakamura and Alex Cabrera hit back-to-back homers to give
the Lions a 3-1 cushion in the sixth, Kazuhiro Wada added a solo shot
in the eighth. Earlier, Nakamura's first homer of the night opened
the scoring in the first.

Hawks 6, BayStars 5

At Yokohama Stadium, Kenji Jojima and Tony Batista drove home
two runs apiece and Nobuhiko Matsunaka singled home a key run in the
seventh inning as Softbank held off Yokohama.

Kazumi Saito (4-0) was charged with four runs in 5-1/3 innings
but was made a winner thanks to homers by Batista and Julio Zuleta,
who both connected off Cedrick Bowers (3-2). Koji Mise struck out two
of the three batters he faced in the ninth for his 16th save.

Eagles 6, Dragons 2

Fumitoshi Takano hit a two-run homer in the second inning and
Koichi Isobe followed with an RBI single two outs later, powering
Rakuten to its second straight victory over Chunichi at Nagoya Dome.

Hiroki Yamamura (1-3) allowed two runs and eight hits in seven
strong innings for his first win in two years. Domingo Guzman (1-1)
was chased after two-plus innings in taking the loss.

Fighters 8, Carp 5

At Hiroshima Stadium, Kuniyuki Kimoto had four RBIs on 2-for-4
hitting and Tsuyoshi Shinjo hit a three-run homer in a 10-hit attack
as Nippon Ham defeated Hiroshima to snap a four-game losing skid.

Tsutomu Iwamoto (1-2) worked 2-1/3 innings for his first win
this season. Shinji Sasaoka (0-4) was charged with five runs in just
one-plus innings as Hiroshima ended its four-game winning streak.

Buffaloes 6, Tigers 6, tie, 12 innings

Cliff Brumbaugh hit a game-tying solo homer off Tomoyuki Kubota
in the top of the ninth inning and sent the game into extra innings
as Orix and Hanshin played to a tie after 12 innings.

Tomoaki Kanemoto, Makoto Imaoka and Shane Spencer all homered to
give the Tigers a 6-5 lead through six innings at Koshien Stadium.
The Buffaloes failed to score in a two-out, bases-loaded situation in
the 12th.
