Former Texas Rangers right-hander Akinori Otsuka said on his blog Wednesday he would undergo surgery on his right elbow the same day.
''Today (Wednesday, U.S. time) I will have surgery on my right elbow,'' said Otsuka, 35, who injured his elbow last season.
''I have come to this decision after much worry and consideration. I will work hard in rehab so I can definitely make a comeback to the mound,'' he said.
Otsuka went 2-1 with four saves in 34 games for the Rangers last season but was put on the disabled list in July after injuring his right elbow. He had no opportunity to pitch in the second half of the season.
Otsuka became a free agent after being released by the Rangers last month. He has a career 13-15 record with 39 saves over four years in the majors.
