Japanese right-hander Hideo Nomo has decided to continue rehabilitation on his pitching elbow in the United States and aims to return to the major leagues next season, his agent Dan Nomura said Monday.
The 37-year-old Nomo, who underwent elbow surgery on June 16 after being released by Triple-A Charlotte of the Chicago White Sox organization earlier that month, is not thinking of returning to Japanese baseball, Nomura said.
With his return to action beyond all hope, Nomo is keeping open the option of joining the Caribbean winter league between November and February in preparation for the 2007 season.
Nomo owns a 123-109 career record with a 4.21 ERA in the majors from 1995 to 2005. He last pitched in a major league game on July 15, 2005, when he started for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays against the Toronto Blue Jays and was charged with seven runs in only 2-2/3 innings.
